So much truth. Literally no one would understand what that meant and you could get in so much trouble, depending on where you are. Not particularly great advice, unless you hate him.
Yeah, but you can’t combat ignorance from behind a shield of lies. Unfortunately, sooner or later we’re going to need to take measured risks. A case like this one, where he has a companion for support, might be just such an opportunity.
I think it really depends on where you are. I’m lucky, because I think my neighborhood gym is pretty cool. If they don’t really get it, they roll with it.
I think it really depends on the locale and the context. I feel like I could “get away with” (for a lack of a better phrase) that at the college I went to (especially since the town has inclusive non-discrimination laws) but I wouldn’t try that in some other places.
Wow, Beef is astonishingly good at this, I did not expect that. I feel Mel’s troubles, but it’s true, nobody should be ashamed of it and trying to hide :/
Thanks for the comments, everyone! Particularly those that voice concerns for being safe in public spaces. Rather than offering “advice,” I was trying to illustrate how being trans makes some people feel less entitled to be in male spaces, and that one doesn’t have to feel that way. It was a personal revelation when I realized that it doesn’t matter whether I act too “effeminately” or “masculinely” in certain spaces, because I belong there just as much as the next guy. But yes, when it’s naked bodies the stakes are a bit higher.
It’s unfortunate that in most situations we would rather have some other kind of excuse, almost anything other than being trans. Hoping for a time when it’s far more acceptable to be as such.
I love how this is the first thing that occurs to Beef. :) I don’t think that’s safe (Unless the locker room there is full of understanding, educated guys?), but either way, Beef is awesome.
Psh, where are these chatty men’s locker rooms?
Yeah, and then get beaten up / ejected from the locker room. That’s just a stupid thing to do, why would you out yourself like that?!

i agree
it’s stupendously dangerous to think that everybodys gonna be as acceptin as you are of trans peeps

You can’t combat ignorance from a casket, either.

Good one, Beef. :)
Unfortunately, you never know what sort of people you’ll be around… They could be totally ok with it. Or they could attack you for it.

It is pretty telling that our knee-jerk reactions were “NO!”
But the lesson of not having to act a certain way is an important one.

You are seriously inspiring me on a day that I am in need of inspiration!
Poor Mel, all this for his true love.
Ohh Mel i know how you feel

What I see in this episode is : the world as it should be … If people were just better educated and understandable ~ things could all be much easier …
