Well who knew I had to move to New York before I could experience my first hurricane after living 24 years in Florida where I never got to see so much as a flying cow. Hopefully I will be able to make it back to the city today, after having evacuated to the hills (more specifically the Aridondacks) where I spent a nice weekend at my relatives’ place complete with water, electricity, and wine.

I’m especially eager to get back to Columbia University so that I can make it in time for my grad school program that starts tomorrow. This is the beginning of a new stage in my transition, where I don’t need to come out as a man before people understand my true gender. I’ve always appeared effeminately, but for the first time the scales are tipped on the masculine side. Before I would just let strangers gender me, but now I feel confident enough to correct them. Hooray! I’ve been waiting for this moment for a good, long time.
