Hah! I did that in high school too! I wasn’t too concerned about folks at school though. My mom flipped out and took me to a hairdresser to fix it and the hairdresser was afraid to cut it any shorter even though she could have made it look better if she did… haha… it was an exhilarating moment taking those scissors to my hair with reckless abandon.
my mom let me get ONE haircut, to my shoulders. i cut the rest of it myself, it was horrrrrrrrrrible. i was in 8th grade, tho. got a proper haircut for 9th grade.
I remember when I got my hair cut I walked into class and no one said hi. Then when I sat down in my seat, the teacher looked at me long and hard, then said “Oh! *birthname*! It’s you! For a second I thought we had a new male student- wait, that was mean….”
I was lucky enough to have parents who were happy for me to have my hair cut before I’d come out to them. The first time I did it, I was 7. I wanted it even shorter but my mum drew the line somewhere (although it was still masculine length and actually shorter than it is now haha). Most boys at that time had reeeeally short hair so I wanted the same. It took about four years for me to get too upset about all the bullying to keep it short, so I grew it out when I was 11. Cut it all off again the day after prom when I was 16 and it felt so good.
Lol I totally know this feeling, but fortunately held it off until I could get an actual hairdresser to do it!
I’m so looking forward to seeing Mel in his high school years! I’m a trans* man in high school myself.
Wow! Just like how I felt when I first cut my hair really short in high school! Thankfully everyone thought it was cool.
Hah! I’m thrilled to find so many people can relate to this :)
