In my experience, it’s up to the person at the counter how hard of a time one has with these bureaucratic sorts of situations. The one in this comic decided to be nice!

Also, that’s less hassle than I go through to renew my passport, and it comes with my birth name, assigned gender at birth, etc

I have actually had this happen. My financial aid was suspended due to being unregistered with selective service. I emailed to explain the circumstances, and the woman who wrote back said she figured I had enough to deal with, and took care of it without further ado. It’s the exception at present, but it happens. :)

The more of us come out, the more common this scenario may become. When it’s in the family, it changes minds.

Can’t wait to see Mel in Japan! I wonder what happenned to his parents… If, you know, he’ll travel and have to say goodbye to them… Or his not talking to his parents? Or his parents are not talking to him? :(
