    Flying boots suck.
I remember the first time where I tried dressing more masculine, but ended up looking like a wannabe Gothic person.

Well, at least she’s trying. It’s a bad, bad idea, but the thought counts!
Pre-hormones and being seen as a butch lesbian is the worst, especially for a gay guy.

I think she’s trying to help. But she obviously doesn’t get it. To be honest, it’s not the first thing most people think of, is it? The trick will be in how she responds once Mel really states in plain terms what gender he feels he is, and how supportive she is with Mel’s choice…

I gotta say, I don’t dislike Carry just yet (I know I’m going to, considering she’s no longer in Mel’s life at the start of the comic, but not yet). She’s just operating within her paradigm. And when she suspected “Melissa” might be gay, she didn’t seem like she’d not be okay with that.

I’m impressed. You translated a complex issue particularly relevant to transmen into easily digestible terms. :)

Women have the latitude to be gender fluid in presentation, which is a right that men still have to fight for. But it makes it difficult for people to understand why a change of clothes won’t solve the problem. It’s easy to see that “butch/alternative girl” doesn’t mesh with Mel’s laid back masculinity.

Poor Mel! The best intentions of friends trying to help squeeze someone into “the box” are often the hardest to stand up too.
