I think that ‘primarily’ is the key word here. I’ve personally seen it used as a slur against all sorts of trans* people; transmasculine and transfeminine. It’s only used more commonly for MtF spectrum people because we tend to stand out more in the public imagination. As far as I’m concerned, it’s all of our word.

That’s true, but there’s not really another word that could be used in that context and have the same effect.
“Well what about trans people, then?” said loudly/dramatically just doesn’t have the same harshness to it. :P)
There isn’t really any slurs against trans guys, for some reason.

Of course you could argue that the reason trans men don’t have that word used against them is that we’re almost entirely unrecognized by the general public. We’re basically invisible. No one even thinks about us and some have no clue we exist. People are more likely to use the same slurs they use for lesbians against us than anything else since they assume we are lesbians most of the time. There may be positives to being relatively unrecognized by modern culture but there are negatives too and I’m all for increasing our visibility.

Also I do know some trans women who are also trying to reclaim the word “tranny.” For me personally I just really don’t like or identify with that word. But I support my friends who want to reclaim it or use it in their labels for themselves.
